One of the most popular custom, natural paths for Animal Crossing: New Horizons is still chugging along through the community, displaying incredible variations along the way. The original design, The Path, created by @Demin2_mori on Twitter, gained popularity due to its ability to create winding, weaving patterns that are more free-form than the path options provided by Nintendo, according to the designer.

The dirt path from previous Animal Crossing games, which returning Animal Crossing players may have been looking for in New Horizons, is closely resembled by the nine-slot custom design “The Path.”Each design creates the illusion of a more natural path, with cute little details along the edges that imitate grass, puddles, leaves, and flowers to give the appearance of a more natural path.

For example, grass in the game appears to flow perfectly alongside The Path, in contrast to the limited edge options available with Nintendo’s programmed paths. Numerous variations have appeared since the original design was unveiled in June, ranging from dirt paths to stone paths, celestial or water paths, and everything in between. New designs are created on a weekly basis, and Halloween and fall-themed designs have recently become extremely popular among the New Horizons fandom.

The Path designs have garnered such a large following that a dedicated website has been established to share the original designer’s codes as well as a plethora of variations. Players can create paths that loop around ponds and houses from nearly any angle, allowing islands to be more customized and personal in their design and appearance. This is especially true given the fact that players are restricted in how many custom designs they can use on their islands.

In order to create visually stunning designs, the New Horizons players continue to go above and beyond. Each piece demonstrates a high level of attention to detail. In some places, the pond paths are absolutely breathtaking, with spectacular displays of light reflecting off the water. Design elements for the fall season have a warm, autumnal feel to them, and some of the more spooky paths appear to be a good match for some of the items in the Animal Crossing Halloween update.

For those who have a Nintendo Switch Online subscription, players can use the Custom Designs Portal, which can be found in back of the Able Sisters’ shop, to access and search for creators and custom designs (as long as they have a Nintendo Switch Online subscription, of course). A recent New Horizons update also included the ability to save favorite creators in the Custom Designs Portal, making Animal Crossing New Horizons Items easier to find them later.
