I will preface this by stating I do not think that it’s a bad thing for them to bring awareness to the issue.
I will preface this by stating I do not think that it’s a bad thing for them to bring awareness to the issue. It’s important that it can’t just be dismissed by looking away from it. That said, I really do hold a certain amount of Madden 21 coins distrust towards multi-billion buck multinational corporations paying lip service to important social issues. Of course, as a philosophical business they’re under no duty to do so, and it rings hollow when they attempt to stand in solidarity with the common people. Currently there are businesses out there that do things and this is the time to emphasize those efforts; to demonstrate they’re more than simply words.
I would generally agree in the case of paying lip service to social problems without also putting money and support to advocate for change or applying it to the company and their work in the very least. That said police brutality is not just something that a company like EA throwing money at the problem does much towards fixing. At best they put money towards the attorneys and groups that fight to see justice after the truth or lobby to have laws changed that in the current government won’t. It’s systemic difficulties within authorities of not reporting their particular and holding them accountable rather staying quiet and with the police unions which allow it all to happen or in a sense even encourage it from the consequences being a slap on the wrist followed by being hired in another precinct showing them there is no consequences. Before even getting to legislation and rulings such as qualified immunity which protect abusive cops and allow them to abuse their power freely. The vast majority of which EA and many capitalist businesses are not able to do so much about making it unfair to state they’re in the best possible place to do more.
Those in the best possible position to do more would be the supposed great cops by no more staying quiet and enabling bad cops to eliminate their misuse of power or voting for superior leadership for their unions which won’t enable the behavior. However, of course it’s just words. Companies will only ever do these things once public opinion has turned one way. Since after decades of corporations doing things for the wrong reason, people are extremely cynical. Even if all corporations stopped doing things wrong, it’ll take a longlong time for that picture of corporate America to lose its tarnish. Part of what we can do is elect politicians who at least promise they’ll hold these corporations accountable. It probably wont happen by itself. This could be much easier if someone like that could run for office .
Because no matter the sentiment, this remains 100% a company and marketing maneuver. If they truly wanted to do something positive, they can do it without advertising their products while doing this. As it’s not genuine. This is no different than the coronavirus commercials. They could have said nothing in any way. That is good. Solidarity or else they realize a nice chunk of the audience is obsessed with something more important than a damn videogame? Man. These comments really highlight the nihilistic character of reddit users. Yes, this is a provider. Yes, it’s something to do with advertising. But Jesus, can’t we be glad that firms are saying something? Do you not understand just how much of an impact this could create? If the company ignored the circumstance, it would give every checked out thoughts the idea that what is happening is normal and regular.
EA doesn’t care for people who aren’t investors. Removing Kaepernick’s name from tunes in Madden 2 years in a row reveals it. Businesses do not want one to defend themlet their lawyers do that work. I am all for calling a spade a spade and being happy after I’m surprised by something like this. But we shouldn’t praise a company for attaining the absolute bare minimum. We should praise companies who show patterns of pleasure. Feel free to disagree, but please don’t act like this specific instance is this incredibly complicated morally-grey circumstance. I mean I believed there were fairly strict regulations whose titles and likeliness may be utilized in Madden. Like Belicheck and Payton aren’t in Madden since they aren’t part of the cheap Mut 21 coins NFLCA and that is who EA has a contract with. They may have to cover Kap if his title is used and therefore are likely avoiding that. That and Kap isn’t exactly welcome in the NFL planet (not talking about fans) anymore.
