While playing the Xbox Series X, I never had to wait longer than a few seconds to get into a game. Navigating through the MyCareer menu, hitting and instantly being placed on the court felt just like magic. Overall, the load speeds of the next-gen consoles create 2K21 a much better experience. Hardcore players are utilized to marathoning games, and also these snappy load times make everything easier. Even loading to the match’s online manners, which have been notoriously slow before.

NBA 2K21’s images get a facelift in its own next-gen version. The light is better, and the faces look a lot more lifelike. Some of the personalities in cutscenes still look a little tough, but the players themselves seem better than ever. As far as mechanics, 2K21 doesn’t reinvent the wheel with its next-gen version. However, the developers used this chance to add some more unique animations to the game. This includes some new cartoons for alley-oops, which are extremely satisfying to pull away.
