After the release of its M2K Tekno in “summit white,” “team orange,” and “mountain blue” for women, Nike has dropped the sneaker in men’s sizing. The shoe’s design draws inspiration from the original 2002 Air Monarch, playing with the sneaker’s chunky sole and thick heel for a now ubiquitous “dad shoe” look. To be fair, you could run in Top Quality this shoe and enjoy a Hoka-level pillowy softness beneath your foot, but the primary function of any Air Monarch descendant isn’t to help you run—it’s to deliver maximum comfort to anyone who either A. doesn’t care about fashion at all, or B. cares a lot and has convinced himself he has enough “dad swag” to pull off the look. Either way, these shoes are an excellent value and hearken back to the bulkier, less-specialized look of so many of our first running shoes.
