Would it possible to get Sr-Leadership to want to promote from within, for high profile roles, instead of recruiting their own personal friends or previous colleagues from outside the firm ?
Recently, a director of business development role opened up in our technology firm, that I had real interest in. This role was not even announced internally, but all of a sudden a new appointee was parachuted-in from outside for this role and was announced by the COO, who also was recently on-boarded a few months back. Later on, we discovered the new Director of BusDev worked with the COO in a previous career. Effectively no internal staff had a chance at this high-profile role-opportunity, which usually don’t come by too often.
How do we get Sr Leaders to want to recruit internally, allow existing staff a career path, and stop trading-off internal staff promotion opportunities?
