A Great Deal Of Cool People

My ideas on RuneScape and this subreddit as a new participant

I want to share my experience as a brand new player both in OSRS gold sport and on this subreddit. I’m relatively new to this subreddit, but I seldom see articles coming from newer gamers (I know there are likely more long term players vs newer gamers, but our voice needs to be heard as well!) My best friend and I began to play RuneScape because Covid has us locked down. We have never touched RuneScape in our high school years, but we certainly knew what it was since a lot of our other classmates played with it at the time. So we decided to give it a chance because we have been looking for a new game to playwith.

Our expertise has been great so far! There is definitely an overwhelming amount of content and things to learn that can be confusing at times, but after doing lots of searches on wiki and trial and error, we are getting a fantastic foothold on matters. The people we have struck in RuneScape game were mostly very friendly and were willing to explain a lot of items to us! This came from service through a clan we combined and only random interaction with others. With all these positive interactions, my buddy and I chose to see what was going on at the RuneScape subreddit. And boy were we in for a surprise.

The vast majority of the top upvoted posts are simply toxic complaints regarding RuneScape and Jagex for a company. The remarks are even worse even on apparently positive posts from Moderators, the comment section is full of negativity entirely irrelevant to what the Mod had posted. I understand that players should voice their thoughts on the state of RuneScape, however, this is just overwhelming negativity which forms a toxic community.

But I wish to lety’all know that this community CAN push away prospective new clientele. My friend pointed out that when we viewed this subreddit BEFORE we started playing, there is a good chance we may have skipped over cheap RuneScape gold. And he is totally right, when seeking to find a new match, the first thing we go to is the evaluations. If we saw how the top overall posts were mostly complaints about RuneScape, we would have definitely moved on to a different game. I realize that there is a weekly thread (Monday Feedback), so why not keep most of the complaints there?
